Polaroid Photography.
I love taking Polaroids. I had one when I was younger. The immediacy of it was sensational. Now-a-days, that's circumvented by cell phones. The wow-factor of taking a picture and then seeing it develop within a few seconds, right before your eyes, was...incredible.
But technology moves on. I have to admit that I was excited about digital processing. That meant no more long hours in a darkroom, no more chemicals. The trade off is hours spent in front of a lighted computer screen and endless possibilities.
My Polaroids are digital. It is a filter process that I use to get the effect of a real Polaroid. A lot of time goes into it, actually. But the act of taking a Polaroid style picture is much like how one uses the cameras on their phones today. Quick. Intimate. Capturing the moment. Snapping the shutter to get that instantaneous response.
Not everything I photograph will make a good Polaroid. But I have found that not every image makes for a good final art print, either. The journey to a finished photograph is marred by the confines of the form it will eventually take.
So, when I shoot for my Polaroid collections, I strive to fit that particular frame that only a Polaroid possess.
